Shawn moved away from Indiana at the beginning of the 9th grade. He and his bestfriend Jason from that year on met up in California and hung out with his father, Mike, and his uncle Greg. Greg was dating a very nice girl from Milpitas. Shawn and Jason would go over to her house, with Greg, and visit a couple of times. Next door was the lovely Robyn. One evening, during the summer of 95 Robyn came over while shawn and jason were playing with the younger sister. Shawn did a powerful redition of Garth Brooks' "Wild Horse" which he titled "Wild Turkeys". Robyn was instantly smitten (so shawn believed). OK, she thought he was a little bit funny and they hung out a few times that summer and grew to like each other. Robyn moved to Idaho to attend Rick's College and Shawn returned to Washington state to finish high school. Shawn then worked up the nerve to ask Robyn if she liked him (via snail-mail), and she confesed that she did indeed.
